Kennedy was born in Brookline, Massachusetts, on May 29, 1917. He was the second son of nine children born to the multimillionaire Joseph P. Kennedy, and his wife, Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy. In school, one of his teachers said that people liked him more for his personality rather than his accomplishments. As a child he was often ill and spent most of his time reading. John attended college at Princeton for a short time and then enrolled at Harvard University where he majored in government and international relations. After he graduated from Harvard in 1940, he attended Stanford University for graduate studies. In April of 1941 he tried to enlist in the U.S. Army, but was rejected due to physical reasons. After he was strong again he was accepted to be in the U.S. Navy. He later became an intelligence officer in Washington D.C. and was later requested at sea in 1942 when the U.S. joined World War II. In March of 1943 he was given command of a patrol torpedo boat armed with many weapons. A few months later his boat was sliced in half by a Japanese destroyer and two of his crew were killed. him and six others held on to the other half of the boat that remained afloat. There were 6 other survivors in the nearby water. In a three hour struggle he managed to get his men to the floating wreck. It was found out, that four beef muscles, namely Longissimus, Semimembranosus, Biceps Femoris and Semitendinosus, when exposed to either 50, 75 or 100g of explosives got significant tenderization. A significant 72% reduction in shear force was observed for the longissimus muscle using 100g of explosives. In other three muscles, reduction in shear force with magnitudes of 30 to 59% improvements was observed. Results suggest that using the ‘Hydrodyne process’ for tenderizing beef is a novel opportunity for the meat industry to produce ‘Tender Meat’ (Solomon M.B et al, 1997). Having said that, it is also well-known that intrinsic quality attributes of beef, especially the tenderness of beef, depends to a great extent on post-mortem factors, such as Temperature, pH, Proteolysis that result in degradation of beef during the post-mortem ageing. However, researchers have also proved that Quality characteristics, depend directly on the muscle biology of live animals which is further regulated by the genetic, nutritional and rearing factors (Geay et al, 2001); (Maltin et al, 2003) A significant method of improving productivity is ‘Cloning’. In technical terms, Cloning is the production of multiple genetically identical animals (Robl Spell, 2001). Genetically identical animals have been in production for over 30 years by using the technique of dividing embryos into two or more portions, so as to produce multiple embryos (Robl Spell, 2001). The technique, also known as ‘Splitting’ did not manage to generate as much public interest or concern, as has the current technique of ‘Nuclear Transplantation’ which is most commonly referred as ‘Cloning’. Nuclear Transplantation has the potential of producing genetically identical animals in unlimited numbers (Chan 1999; Cibelli et al, 1998; Wilmut et al, 1997). Somatic Cell nuclear transplantation cloning has great promise, however, the limitations, such as low pregnancy rates and low calf survival rates restrict is current use. Somatic Cell cloning is still in the research phase and it is of utmost importance, that there is necessary research done, in order to improve survival rates and further evaluate variations in results before the commercialization of this technique could take place. Small scale commercialization of this technology will be the second phase where they multiply animals of high value. European Union’s regulatory activity first started its activity in this area in 1980 after a unilateral ban imposed by four EU member countries (Italy,Netherlands,Denmark, andGreece) in absence of EU wide legislation. Regulatory heterogeneity within the European Union ended up creating conflict among different member states. Countries that possessed more permissive hormone regulation claimed that more strict regulations in other countries were helpful in creating non-tariff barriers to trade (Brand Ellerton, 1989). At the same time, various scandals related to illegal hormone sale, use of hormones in Livestock breeding grew into a controversial public health issue (Caduff Bernauer, 2004). Following the consumer boycotts against hormone beef led to a considerable drop in the prices as well as the sales of beef in many European Union Countries. In response to the constituencies’ preference for hormone free beef, as well as constant media attention and lobbying done by the import-competing beef producers, EU member states that had stricter regulations, refused to relax their standards (Caduff Bernauer, 2004). The member states which indulged in producing hormone beef feared losing their European beef export markets due to the partial national autonomy of other countries for regulation of beef hormones coupled with the domestic political pressures. As a result, majority of EU countries agreed to the EU-wide hormone ban, exceptUnited Kingdom(Caduff Bernauer, 2004). However, the majority voting council of Agriculture Ministers, helped enable the regulators of EU to overcome the opposition ofUnited Kingdom. For consumers, attributes such as color, visible fat, price and cut were the most important and influencing factors, they considered when making a purchase. Other attributes such as tenderness, flavor and juiciness, which were significantly increased by enhancement, were found to be of high importance with respect to the eating satisfaction of customers. Although there was some concern about the added ingredients, there is no doubt that enhancement leads to much tender and juicier beef. CONCLUSION During the course of this essay we have explored that increasing the beef quality without using antibiotics, growth hormones, cloning, vitamin supplementation seems to be a tough ask. Raising beef cattle without enhancement may not result in the quality of beef desired by the customers, and will also prove to be more expensive. On the other hand, it was also observed how important it is to work within the regulations. This is a dilemma which will need further research. Responding to customers’ needs may not be a wise option, as some researchers have found serious health risks; however, concrete evidence is yet to be discovered. Personal Story Returning Home Essay I want to tell you about my personal experience when I moved from America to Kurdistan. Moving was a really difficult thing for me because I was so used to living in America for so long and after going back everything was different and everything changed. When I first moved I was really happy because I got to see my family that I havent seen in so long. I got to meet new friends, but after staying for a month I realized that everything was different. The food the stores the mall the places everything it was nothing like America. When I went home and turned on the TV I realized that I wouldnt be able to see my favorite shows anymore. I wasnt used to living this life. When I started school in Kurdistan it was so hard. The kids were so rude to the teachers, the work was different than what I was used to, the way to school was you would have to memorize everything instead of actually studying it. I also had different courses that I never ever took before. Things were so new to me and since I came back from America it wasnt that easy to comprehend what I was suppose to study. The way the school is set up if you fail one class you failed the whole entire grade level, and they were teaching us things that we have never heard before. The teachers not knowing much English thought that they knew everything. When we would correct a teacher on their grammar that used to get mad and tell us that we didnt know anything. That made me really upset because living in America for 11 years I knew it I was talking about. The thing I like the most about Kurdistan was the amount of people that used to come over to visit and everything. Once a day no matter what time of day was we would have guests and family and friends coming over to see us. we would never be alone or never be lonely because there was always someone there to cheer us up. We lived in Kurdistan for about a year when we decided to come back to finish our school here. We thought it would be much easier to come get a diploma over here and get a good education over here so we can go back with our diploma and attend college there. When I go back I plan to attend college and study to become a teacher. I want to be able to give the people there the education I received in America. While I am here in America Im taking everything in, going to places Ive never been, visiting things I never seen visiting people that I miss so much. When I came to America I thought that I would want to go back to start high school the regular way like a normal teenager, But I learned about penn foster and I realized that I can do it online and on my own schedule. Nothing was more important to me then school was so that was the first thing on my main list. Now that Im here in America Im waiting to get my diploma so I can return back to Kurdistan. I am very grateful that I got the opportunity to live both in America and in Kurdistan and that I had the experience to live both the American and Kurdish life. I got to experience things that other foreign people would not be able to experience. I have had great opportunities now I cant wait to go back. I want to go back and be able to share that amazing experiences I had with everyone back home. I want to show them pictures and memories that I had. Linking American Indian Communities With Veteran Services Richard Downs I’m choosing to focus on helping to inform Minnesota American Indian Veterans on their opportunities for higher education and to help increase educational attainment rates, completion rates, and self-efficacy. I think it is important to raise awareness on the unique barriers faced by American Indian Veterans, especially those who live outside the metropolitan area or on reservations. Veterans are a very important part of American Indian communities. They are highly regarded, and honored in many different ways. Serving in the military is common and highly regarded in the American Indian community. â€Å"Native Americans have the highest record of service per capita when compared to other ethnic groups† (defense.gov). During powwows, veterans carrying eagle feather staffs, tribal flags, the American flag, as wells as flags representing all branches of the military are the first dancers in the arena. After the first Grand Entry song, a flag song is sung, which is comparable to the Star Spangled Banner, followed by a victory song honoring the veterans. At community events, veterans do not get their own meals; rather other community members serve them. There are benefits and services available to American Indian veterans. Currently, tribal veteran service officers visit reservations in Minnesota on a monthly basis. For example, in the Upper Sioux community, veterans learn about the visits via monthly newsletters. The veterans who attend enjoy a lunch, and the representative meets with them during this time about any concerns or needs they have. This also occurs in the Twin Cities urban area. These representatives are beneficial in that they connect American Indian veterans to services and resources that they might need. However, not everyone who is eligible takes advantages of these services. Veterans may be disconnected either by communication or location and therefore not be aware of these opportunities. They may live in rural areas, but not near their home reservation. Another barrier may be lack of information. They may hear about these services, but not know everything that is available and do not attend, because they think it may not be beneficial to them. Some veterans may be aware of these opportunities and want to utilize them, but not be able to attend, possibly due to lack of transportation or funds. Some reservations such as the Upper Sioux Community have transportation services available for its members, but not all reservations may be able to offer this. A combinatorial organization may be beneficial in linking American Indian communities with veteran services. This model has successfully worked in other areas. For example, the American Indian Cancer Foundation implements programming work to lower the burdens of cancer in American Indian communities. Many times, funding for these programs comes from grants from the government, such as the Centers for Disease Control. The CDC would be unable to implement programs directly to American Indian communities for many reasons, including knowledge of the communities and cultural competency, and lack of the trust in the government by Americans Indians. A linking organization, like AICAF, is necessary, because they have expertise working with and in American Indian communities, as well as extensive education and experience with public health. American Indians are more likely to participate in programs when they are familiar with the people implementing them and can relate to them. Using such a non-profit organization might be the answer to preventing American Indians from falling through the cracks and helping them to overcome life’s obstacles or barriers that cause them to either abstain from participating in educational degree programs or to complete them. In this approach to prevention, the purpose will be to devise a way to build collaborations between multi-cultural student departments, in conjunction with student-veteran offices at college/universities and link them directly to state and federal veteran liaisons or departments, while at the same time keeping in sync with the veteran’s community or tribal affiliation. Moreover, with suicide and substance abuse being major problems in the American Indian community, not to mention similar issues in the diverse aggregate veteran community, feelings of well-being will also likely increase as a result of such a program being successful. Bleeding is most often into joints, such as the knee, elbow, or ankle, but bleeding can occur anywhere in the body. People with hemophilia bleed longer, not faster. The severity of hemophilia varies greatly. Hemophilia A and Hemophilia B are the most common genetic bleeding disorders. Hemophilia A is observed in 80 percent of hemophiliacs and is a deficiency or absence of Factor VIII. It can also be referred to as "classic" hemophilia. In the second most common, hemophilia B, factor IX is missing. This is also known as the "Christmas Disease" because of the surname of the first patient studied. Hemophilia was identified as early as biblical times. Doctors in medieval times were familiar with it as well. In 1803, a Philadelphia doctor published the first description of hemophilia in the United States. But it was not until 30 years later that hemophilia became widely recognized. Hemophilia later developed a reputation as the "royal disease" because it passed from Queen Victoria of England to her descendants throughout the royal houses of Europe. About eighty percent of all cases of hemophilia have an identifiable family history of the disease; in other instances, it may be attributable to a spontaneous mutation. Researchers recently discovered that the spontaneous mutation of the factor VIII gene in two children was due to the attachment of a foreign "jumping gene" that disrupted the blood-clotting ability of the factor VIII gene. In 1992 at the UN Conference in Rio de Janeiro, there was an international agreement on promoting sustainable development and thus also promoting sustainable lifestyle. As the analysis above, people could do to reduce the stress of environment from these following aspects: Resources conservation Resources conservation including reduction of using natural resources to make sure the limited resources could use longer for more people. Such as water conservation in daily life. Water is the source of life. People could not live on earth without water. Another important resource is biodiversity. Biodiversity conservation should be paid much attention because the whole earth includes people, animals, atmosphere, land and water stays in a stable system. Lacking of one of these factors, the system will damage, and we human beings could gain the benefits from the biodiversity such as food, fibers and even medicine. Waste classification could reduce the difficulties in the process of dealing and increase the effectiveness. The most common waste in our life is plastic bags and bottles. Resources reuse Resource reuse means using again especially in a different way. This could help increase the effectiveness a resource.
